Why HiOS Launcher won't install

HiOS Launcher · com.transsion.hilauncher

HiOS Launcher downloads from AppLoko but won't install? Below is what in this particular build (13.9.048.2, 55 MB) can block the install, and what to do about each case. Everything here comes from the installation file we serve, not from generic advice.

Which Android version is required?

The first thing to check is your Android version. This build needs Android 9 or newer: on 8.0 and older the system installer rejects the package and shows “App not installed” without explaining why. Your version is in Settings → About phone → Android version.

How much free storage is needed?

The second is free storage. The file itself is 55 MB, but installing needs roughly 139 MB: the installer keeps both the package and the code unpacked from it on disk at the same time, and frees the difference only afterwards. When storage runs short the installer shows the same “App not installed”.

Does this build fit my processor?

Processor architecture is not the problem here: the build carries native code for both 64-bit and 32-bit processors (arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a), so on that count it fits any Android phone. If the install still fails, the cause is one of the other points.

Why won't it install over the Google Play copy?

The file was not repackaged: it carries the same certificate as the other HiOS Launcher builds in the catalogue. Still, if a copy from some other source with a different signature is already installed, Android will refuse to update it with this file — uninstall that copy and try again.

Which permissions will the app ask for?

After installation HiOS Launcher will ask for dangerous permissions: ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, READ_CONTACTS, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and 8 more. They are requested on first launch, not during installation, so denying them does not break the install — but some features will not work without them.

It installed but does not work — why?

The build allows unencrypted HTTP traffic. That does not affect installation, but with a private DNS, a VPN or a blocker enabled some of the app's requests may not go through — which looks like “it installed but does not work”.

Has the file been scanned?

The file is checked: VirusTotal, 75 antivirus engines, no detections. Android's warning about installing from an unknown source is normal — it appears for any file that did not come from Google Play; to continue, allow installs for your browser or file manager in Settings → Apps → Special access.

What if none of this helped?

If none of the points fit, download the file again: an interrupted download produces the same error message. The checksum is printed on the version page, so you can verify the file before installing.
