Google Docs is a word processor built around collaboration rather than around a single author and a file. Several people can work in the same document simultaneously, each seeing the others' cursors move, which removes the entire ritual of emailing versions with names like final_v3_revised and then reconciling changes by hand. Comments and suggested edits let colleagues respond to specific passages, and action items can be assigned to a person rather than left as a vague note nobody claims. Offline mode is what makes the mobile app genuinely usable rather than a viewer. Documents can be edited on a plane or in a tunnel, and changes sync when a connection returns, so a phone becomes a place to actually write rather than only to check something. Microsoft Word files open directly, can be edited, and can be exported back, which matters because your organisation's format is rarely a choice you get to make. A range of other file types are supported similarly. Templates cover common documents so you start from a structure rather than a blank page. Everything saves automatically and continuously, meaning work lost to a crash or a flat battery is not a category of problem that exists here. It is part of Google Workspace and works with Drive, Sheets and Slides.
