This is the companion app for RENPHO smart scales, and its value comes from what a smart scale measures beyond weight. Body fat percentage, water content, bone mass, muscle mass, basal metabolic rate and body age are all estimated, and together they explain something a single weight figure cannot. Somebody training regularly may see their weight stay flat for a month while muscle rises and fat falls, which is progress that a normal scale reports as failure. Seeing the composition change is what stops people abandoning a programme that is actually working. Readings collect into charts over time, and trends are the point rather than individual measurements, since body composition fluctuates daily with hydration, food and time of day. Reports can be exported and shared by email or elsewhere, which is useful when working with a trainer or a doctor. Multiple profiles let a whole family use the same scale with their data kept separate, and the scale recognises who is standing on it. One honest note: bioelectrical impedance, the method these scales use, estimates rather than measures composition directly, and absolute figures should be treated with caution. The direction of change over weeks is reliable and is what matters.
