Learning to write begins with the hand, not the eye. A child needs to feel the shape of a letter through the movement that makes it, which is why tracing is how handwriting has always been taught. This app puts that on a screen: arrows show the direction of each stroke, and the child follows them with a finger. The stroke order matters more than it might appear, since letters formed in the wrong order become harder to write quickly later, and the arrows teach the correct one from the start. Phonics runs alongside the tracing. Each letter is connected to the sound it makes rather than only to its name, which is the connection that decides whether a child later reads fluently or spends years guessing. Matching exercises then put both to use, asking the child to link letters, sounds and pictures. Stickers are collected as rewards, which is a small mechanism with a large effect at this age: a visible collection that grows gives a reason to come back that abstract progress does not. The app is free and covers toddlers through to kindergarten. Fingers rather than a stylus are all that is needed, and the interface is designed for a child to use without an adult sitting beside them.
