Play any string and the app works out which note you are aiming for and shows how far off you are, so you tune in whatever order you like rather than following a fixed sequence. Tuning by ear is the second approach, and it is worth using even if you do not need to. Tap a note to hear it played correctly, then match your string to it. Doing this regularly trains your ear, and over months you start hearing when a string has drifted before you touch a tuner at all, which is a skill no automatic mode will ever give you.
