Kasa Smart controls TP-Link's range of smart home devices: plugs, switches, power strips, bulbs, cameras, routers and range extenders. Everything is managed from one app, from anywhere with a connection, which is the basic proposition of a smart home and the part that actually gets used daily. Schedules are where these devices earn their place. Lamps that come on before you get home in winter, a heater that runs for an hour before you wake, or a coffee machine timed to the morning all remove small daily frictions permanently rather than requiring a decision each time. Away Mode is the more interesting use: lights switch on and off in a pattern resembling occupancy while you are away, which is a genuine deterrent and considerably cheaper than any alarm system. Cameras add monitoring for those who want it. One point deserves attention before buying. Kasa works only with TP-Link's own Kasa-branded hardware, and the compatibility list is specific rather than general. Checking that the exact model you are considering is supported avoids the common and frustrating discovery that a device bought on offer does not appear in the app at all. Within its own ecosystem, setup is straightforward and reliable. Devices need home wi-fi and an account, and remote control requires an internet connection. It is worth deciding early which notifications you actually want, since cameras can report every movement and an unconfigured setup quickly turns a phone into a source of constant noise.
