TIME WARP SCAN: Face Scanner

This app exists for making people laugh, and it is worth approaching it that way rather than as a serious photography tool. The slit scan filter distorts whatever moves while the scanning line travels across the frame, and the results are unpredictable enough that half the entertainment comes from failures. A few things reliably produce good material. Two people swapping places mid-scan end up merged into one impossible person. A pet walking through the frame stretches into something from a fever dream. Waving during a slow scan produces a fan of arms. Deliberately holding perfectly still and then moving at the last second gives you a normal top half and chaos below. Filming with a friend works better than filming alone, because someone needs to be the subject while somebody else watches the timing. The app captures both photos and videos, and the output is sized and formatted for posting straight to social platforms, which is where nearly all of this material ends up. There is nothing to learn beyond pressing record and understanding that the line matters. If your household includes children or anyone who enjoys a silly video, it earns its place on a phone for the small amount of storage it occupies.
